Getting Around Chicago

If you are not feeling adventuresome, no problem – the Royal Sonesta has everything that you need on site.

However, if you want to explore a bit of this great city, all that is required is a pair of comfortable walking shoes. The Royal Sonesta is located in the heart of downtown Chicago with parks, tours, museums, restaurants and other attractions within easy walking distance. If you wish to explore farther afield, be sure to have firm destinations in mind to make your travels safe and stress free.

For those who would like to visit sites outside of a comfortable walking distance, Chicago Transit Authority public transit (bus and train) is the most economical way to go. There are one day and three day passes available with unlimited ride access. You can chart out your trip with the Quick Trip Planner and/or check out the online transit maps.

Taxis in Chicago are plentiful and make travel easy. There are numerous companies to choose from including land and water taxis. The base fare for land taxis is $3.25 and there is a $1.40 price per kilometer. You can estimate a fare by using the taxis fare calculator.

There are Uber and Lyft options available as well. Remember that Lyft is the more popular mode of transportation in Chicago.

An easy way to explore the sites of Chicago is on the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus. There are several packages to choose from that give you a guided tour of the city and the opportunity to stop and explore at your leisure any of the sites along the way.

For the energetic at heart, there are numerous bike rentals and tours available as well as a bike share program -- Divvy Bikes -- with pick up and drop off stations throughout the city. Note: we do not recommend that you video record while bike riding. 😉
